Brush With Obscure Celebrity
Every now and then I have the privilege (sometimes) of having a celeb on one of my flights. Two of the best were Huey Lewis and the late newsman Ed Bradley. Others include Paula Abdul, Billy Ray Cyrus and Wayne Brady. Actually, Wayne Brady was pretty cool too. Sorry, Paula, I'm just not a fan. As for Mr. Achy Breaky....get a haircut.

So, we're at the end of the jetway in Omaha, Nebraska. Our inbound airplane pulls up to the gate, shuts down and the crew steps off. We meet the crew, captain Fred and f/o Chris. They head for the hotel and we saddle up to take the airplane on to Las Vegas. I'm sitting in my seat loading the flight plan into the FMC when my captain turns to me and says, "so, did you recognize Fred?"

I think for second and reply in the negative.

"Have you ever seen Raiders of the Lost Ark?", he asks as if I was too young to have ever heard of it.

"Of course," I reply mildly irritated.

"Well, he had hair then, but Fred played the floatplane pilot who flies Indiana Jones out of the jungle in the opening scene. He actually did the flying as well."

When I got home I dug out my Indiana Jones DVD box set and skipped to the closing credits. Sure enough, the part of Jock is played by Fred Sorenson who just happens to be the same Fred Sorenson who is a captain at my airline. Cool.
